The Alma Mater in Magdeburg is one of the youngest universities in Germany. On 3 October 1993 the University of Technology, the Pedagogic College and the Medical Academy Magdeburg joined to form Otto-von-Guericke University of Magdeburg. The Medical Faculty of Otto-von-Guericke University consists of 21 institutes and 24 departments as well as a number of central service providers.
More than 150.000 patients are treated annually in the special clinics. More than 3.000 people are employed in the Medical Faculty as doctors, scientists, nursing staff and administration employees.
The research profile of medical faculty is characterized by the double focus on:
- Immunology including molecular medicine of inflammation
Knowledge transfer, applied research as well as exchange between science and practice gain more significance within this process. Every year numerous symposia, congresses as well as guest lectures, often held and/or attended by international scientists, are being held at Medical Faculty.
The SORAMIC clinical trial is an Investigator Initiated Trial. Thus, the University of Magdeburg, Medical Faculty acts as Sponsor of the study.
